On The Road Again…

Tuesday, May 11, 2010      Posted in: Life around us

I have a video of myself, at the age of 11, pretending to be a National Geographic photographer. It’s ridiculous, really. Little awkward tweenager Kate, with braces and caterpillar eyebrows, all engrossed in my fake photography quest. Growing up, I’d attack the N.G. magazine as soon as it arrived at our house and pour through the images. It wasn’t the landscape that I was in love with, it was the adventure and the people that I stood in awe of. I used to be terrified of the unknown, living vicariously through magazines, and now I’ve found a photography niche that completely has a hold of me. Love, mixed with travel.
For the next few months I’ll be traveling around the country capturing weddings and sessions and exploring new places. I’ve drastically cut down on the total amount of weddings (and, for now, stopped accepting Nashville weddings) so I can spend more time with my family, while I’m not on a plane or wandering lost around a new city. A big THANK YOU to Scott Andress for creating a new logo to go along with my exploration. If Operation New Crafton succeeds, and we’re able to have another babe, I’ll find myself tethered to the house again in 2011…..where I will blissfully fall back into the roll of “normal” mom. Until then, I’ll be posting of my adventures here and on our travel blog. Enjoy the ride!

Music Photography

Monday, March 15, 2010      Posted in: Life around us

Sorry about the downed blog post folks…it will be up again soon! Until then, enjoy a few pictures that are outside of the norm for me. I typically don’t shoot music/band promotional material but the past few weeks I’ve had friends (and friends of friends) needing help with a few quick images. I’m always up for a challenge!

Holga Photography

Saturday, January 16, 2010      Posted in: Life around us

A few years ago, I was searching for a fun photography class to attend and the majority of offerings had titles like “Beginning Digital Photography” or “Learning Your Camera”. There was one class that I found which had the title: “Holga and Alternative Processing”. This tiny plastic camera taught me to embrace the unexpected and reignited my passion for film. It also helped me to fall in love with landscape and nature photography, which I previously had little interest in pursuing. This year we’ll be taking my Holgas on our travels (ahhh fun with airport security) so there will be lots of 120 film posts in the future!
